About this spot

Punta Trettu lies on Sardinia's southwest coast opposite the island of Sant'Antioco, in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu – one of the most popular learning kite spots in the Mediterranean. A mirror-flat standing-depth area extends for several hundred metres over a sandy bottom, free of waves and chop. The prevailing wind is the Maestrale (Mistral) from the north-west, plus the Scirocco from the south-east. Thanks to the Venturi effect in the narrow channel between Sardinia and Sant'Antioco and the thermal over the pine forest behind the bay, the wind often blows 5–10 knots stronger than forecast.

When is the best time to visit Punta Trettu? A genuine season from April to October with peak conditions May to September; it is rideable on around 75% of days. The flat standing-depth water is ideal for beginners as well as freestylers practising new tricks.

Insider tips

Because the Mistral and Scirocco here often blow 5–10 kn stronger than forecast due to Venturi effect and thermal, size down rather than going by Windguru. The standing-depth area makes starting easy; for waves, nearby Sant'Antioco (about 15 min by car) is the place.

⚠︎ Hazards

Wind can come in noticeably stronger than forecast due to Venturi and thermal effects – choose your gear accordingly. On peak days the popular learning area gets busy.
