About this spot

A turquoise bay in northern Sardinia near Palau, opposite the Isola dei Gabbiani peninsula. A spit splits the area into two zones: the causeway linking the Isola dei Gabbiani to the mainland runs roughly NNE–SSW, set at right angles to the main wind. On the windward side you practise first jumps in small chop; on the leeward side you find flat water for freestyle and tricks.

Which wind blows at Porto Pollo? Summer is dominated by thermal wind, joined repeatedly by the stronger Mistral from the northwest, accelerated locally by the hilly terrain – typically 15 to 30 knots. Mornings are gentler and good for beginners; from midday it builds. In the shoulder seasons Tramontana, Mistral and Scirocco come into play. Best season is May to September. With its two sides and graded wind on offer, Porto Pollo suits beginners to pros on kite, windsurf and wing; schools and centres sit right on the bay.
