Rerik – Salzhaff

Rerik – Salzhaff

About this spot

Flatwater lagoon right behind the Wustrow peninsula, northeast of Wismar. The Salzhaff is shielded from the open Baltic by Wustrow, so the water stays knee- to hip-deep across wide areas – one of the best learning areas on the entire Baltic Sea. The wind comes in cleanly across the sand, best from W, SW and N; onshore it stays flat, and many other directions are rideable with minor compromises. You rig and launch on the broad haff side at Rerik harbour.

When is the best time for Rerik? April to October, with reliable spring and autumn winds and warm summer water. Standing-depth flatwater, plenty of space and steady wind make for fast progress – ideal for beginners, wingfoilers and SUP, but fun for freeriders too when it blows harder.

Insider tips

Because of the seagrass beds in the haff, bring a weed fin. Schools are at Rerik harbour on Wustrower Straße. In summer come early – the standing-depth area is very popular.

⚠︎ Hazards

A very safe standing-depth spot; the main issues are seagrass and summer crowds. With offshore wind components, do not drift too far out across the haff.
