About this spot

Born lies on the Bodden side of the Darß, on the Saaler Bodden – completely flat water with a huge standing area that reaches out 500 to 600 m. As a result hardly any waves form, and the spot also sits in a small, sheltered bay. Perfect for anyone wanting to drill wingfoil, SUP or the kite basics away from the Baltic bustle – but experienced riders enjoy the clean flat water too.

This is tide-free Bodden: in SE or N the wind blows sideonshore and you head straight out into the Saaler Bodden; overall it is rideable from S/SSE through SW to W. Why is Born so good for learning? Because you stand for hundreds of metres and the water stays shallow – every fall ends with your feet down rather than in deep water. A surf school at the Born campsite has run kite, windsurf, wingfoil, SUP and eFoil courses for years, plus rental. Best season is May to September.

In SE or N the wind is sideonshore – clean and straight out into the Bodden. The standing area reaches 500–600 m: ideal for water-start practice and first wingfoil runs. Rental and courses at the campsite surf school.

⚠︎ Hazards

Few real hazards – flat water, sheltered bay, almost no waves. With offshore components keep distance from the reeds/shore and watch for wind pushing you out.
