About this spot

Prerow lies on the Darß, with fine white sand and a beach that opens up for kilometres. It is national-park territory with a designated kite zone – you rig and launch between beach access 49 and the pier, where there is enough room to prepare in peace. Paid parking is about 250 m from the spot, and the nearest larger town is Barth.

This is tide-free Baltic: shallow out to about 50 m, then chop to wave beyond. In W, NW and N the wind comes in onshore to sideonshore – good beginner conditions in the shallow zone. Does Prerow also work for wave riders? Yes: in steady easterlies the wind blows straight onto the beach and locals report 3–4 m waves, which is no longer beginner territory. Two kite schools on site help with gear or lessons. Best season is spring and autumn, with the main window April to October.
