Paros – Pounta

About this spot
Pounta Beach sits on the southwest coast of Paros, directly opposite Antiparos and next to the small port where the car ferry crosses the narrow channel. That channel between the two islands acts like a nozzle: the Meltemi, which blows from the north almost daily from mid-May to mid-September, is funnelled and accelerated here. This makes Pounta one of the most wind-reliable spots in Greece.
The wind blows side to side-onshore, typically 18–24 knots and stronger in high summer – often 25+ knots on July and August afternoons. The water is flat and sandy for the first few metres, with some chop once the wind tops 20 knots. The wide, obstacle-free sand beach gives plenty of room to rig and launch. When is the best time to visit Paros? June to September, when the Meltemi runs steadily. The spot suits advanced riders, wingfoilers and windsurfers after strong, gust-free wind.

Insider tips
At 20+ knots a small kite is often plenty – in high summer pack a size down. The wind usually builds in the afternoon; mornings are calmer and less crowded. Rig and launch on the wide sand beach next to the port.
⚠︎ Hazards
Ferry traffic crossing to Antiparos passes through the spot – keep clear of the shipping lane. Above 25 knots with an onshore component it gets rough; in a strong Meltemi this is not a beginner spot.
