About this spot
Fine sandy beach on Butjadingen's North Sea coast, at the Friesenstrand near Tossens. One of Butjadingen's three official kite zones was set up here – outside these zones kiting is not allowed in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. You rig and launch on the beach or the grass strip by the dyke and ride out on the tidal flat. In west and northwest winds an unhurried family and beginner spot with plenty of room.
How does kiting at Tossens work? Like everywhere on the flats, by the tide: it works in the window around high water, and the area dries out in between. Planned properly it gives good, flat conditions. Low-key but reliable – ideal from April to October.

Insider tips
Only launch and ride in the designated kite zone at the Friesenstrand. Use the tide window around high water; at ebb it gets a long way out. Kitebrothers school on site (also in Burhave).
⚠︎ Hazards
Tides and tidal channels (Priele): on the ebb you risk long walks back across the flats. Respect the kite zones and bathing areas.
