About this spot

Set between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven, Wremen is pure Wadden Sea – wide, flat, calm. The designated kite zone is generously sized; you rig and launch on the large meadow by the dyke, then enter the water over a staircase and a small stone edge before the flats open up. You ride out on the tidal flat; good wind directions are W/NW/SW. Around high water there is a huge, partly muddy standing area.

When can you kite at Wremen? In the window roughly three hours before to after high water, April to October. Choppy at high water, smoother on the ebb. Check about an hour after high water whether there is still enough water, or the slog back across the flats gets tough. Because of the entry and the tide, better for advanced riders.

Location

Insider tips

Park at Wurster Nordseebad (visitor's tax) or at the harbour; the school is right at the dyke. Rig on the meadow, enter over the staircase/stone edge. Ride only in the signposted kite zone.

⚠︎ Hazards

Tides: at ebb you face kilometres of walking across the flats; head back in time. The stone-edge entry can be tricky.
