Dümmer See

About this spot
The Dümmer is Lower Saxony's second-largest lake and has been a windsurf mecca in the Osnabrück region for decades. The shallow lake is almost entirely standing depth, and the flat surroundings let the wind run in freely – making it one of Germany's safest learning waters and popular with advanced surfers too. When can you surf the Dümmer? Because the shallow water warms quickly, the season starts early in the year and runs into autumn. The best wind direction is southwest, but west, northwest and north also work. The shore offers fine sand, sunbathing lawns and rigging areas. The VDWS-certified surf school at Hüde/Lembruch runs courses and rental, plus SUP and wing foiling. Gentle chop, a wide area – ideal for beginners, freeriders, wingfoilers and SUP.
