About this spot
A long, gently sloping Wadden Sea beach near Horumersiel in the Wangerland, just above the Jadebusen bay. Its highlight is a roughly 3 km² stand-up area with mostly sandy bottom and little mud – even at high water you can still stand a good kilometre out. The spot is usable about 2.5 to 3 hours before to after high water; outside that window you can ride along the mudflat edge. You rig and launch on the beach. Best wind comes from west to northeast, blowing steadily across open water – southwest comes side-offshore off the land here; the whole area lies within the Wadden Sea national park.
When is the best time to visit Schillig? Spring and autumn are the most wind-reliable, while summer brings warm water and busy beaches.
