About this spot

Trassenheide lies in the quieter part of Usedom between Zempin and Peenemünde – fine white sand, wide dunes and plenty of space to rig. In north to east conditions the long Baltic beach becomes a wave spot with waves up to around 2 m; the wind here usually blows hard.

This is tide-free Baltic: in N and NW the wind comes in onshore to sideonshore, and in stronger north-easterlies Usedom turns into one of the best wave spots on the Baltic, with the option of long wave downwinders. Where do you go in westerly wind on Usedom? Then you switch to the Achterwasser by the Peene mouth – the island's only real standing area, with sheltered, easily rideable wind. So in almost any direction there is something: waves for advanced riders on the coast, flat water for practice in the Achterwasser. Best season is April/May to the end of October.

Insider tips

In N/NE/NW go to the Baltic beach for waves (up to ~2 m); in westerly wind switch to the Achterwasser by the Peene mouth – the island's only standing area, sheltered and rideable. Plenty of space to rig in the dunes.

⚠︎ Hazards

In north-east strong wave and current on the Baltic beach – for advanced riders. Bathing crowds in summer; the Achterwasser is the flat, safe alternative in westerly wind.
